When you look at non-Europeans that participate in our favourite TV show, our friends in Canada must have provided more than their fair share. We’ve had one Canuck winner, and many others have tried.
Today’s birthday girl La Zarra (née Fatima-Zahra Hafdi) hails from Montréal, so is naturally a French speaker. And, naturally, she got the internal selection gig from France Télévisions to head to Liverpool. There was a small gimmick when at one point she became the incredible growing Québecoise, and there were murmurings of high hopes. In the event, she finished 16th, but with her televoting and jury scores almost identical, you can assume her stage antics were liked across the board.
La Zarra is 38 today.
