27 August – So you can wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Eurovision is an odd thing. The songs stoke emotions that are sometimes quite strong. How is it that a combination of notes can be loved or hated so much? And hate can be such a strong word.

In sunny Rotterdam, not so long ago, Germany sent today’s birthday boy Jendrik Sigwart. He sang a song about hate, and how it is out there, whether you like it or not. It’s an admirable sentiment to put it out there. I suspect Germany hadn’t planned on winning in 2021, as the song was possibly a little too ‘novelty’. As we know, that Rotterdam Grand Final was tough at the bottom, with a selection of performers not scoring a single televote between them. Jendrik was one of these, although he did score three points in the jury vote. It meant a comfortable 25th place for him.

Jendrik is 30 today.

Frohe Geburtstag, Jendrik!
