…that the Royster has been BLATANTLY LYING down below about Sidsel.
Mind you, Texas Lightning were damn good and they might very well be to the wonning. It’s weird, with a few exceptions there seems to be a real sense of the big boys taking over the arena today – we’ve had four days of people desperately trying to get through two contests in whatever manner they can think of, today we’ve got people staging concert performances. It’s a weird contrast, and clearly I’m getting jaded again. But no, Germany’s mic rehearsal was better than most of the final camera runthroughs we’ve seen, and it’s really going to go well.
Then there’s Sidsel who’s all I could ever dream of. I don’t care whether she wins or comes last (OK, I probably would care about either of those eventualities quite hard), but I love watching her on stage. Johnny doesn’t in my humble opinion know how to twist, but he does know how to dance and look good, and even in the one full run through I saw I reckon Sidsel’s got the song nailed. I’m going to continue enjoying it, whatever the rest of you think!
Mihai Tristariu from Romania is sort of yes, but no, but… I can see why people and bookies (many of whom are also people) are excited about it, but it doesn’t do the job for me. However, I do want to make special mention of the dancer who spins on their head for 24 seconds at the end of the song. Not that I was a sad enough geek to sit there looking at my watch while they were doing it… OK, I was! It’s very good, but it’s not as good, nor as visually appealing, as last year’s Romanian entry, which means in theory that it shouldn’t do as well as last year’s Romanian entry. Like theory counts for anything in the Eurovision Song Contest.
I left Phil drinking in the press cafe with members of the “Estonian”, Irish, and British press delegations. And this is before the party. He’s going to be evil tomorrow, I just know it! Oh, and Daz was sat a couple of rows behind us watching Mihai rehearse just now, so I presume he’s not just paying lip service to liking the contest.
