31 August – I’m not hiding from you, I am everywhere

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

It’s notable that some countries always have bigger journeys to make than others, when getting to our favourite TV show. Australia aside, those countries on the edges of Europe always have to make an effort.

Take our friends in Iceland for example. That journey to Baku must have felt like forever. Conversely, when today’s birthday girl Ingibjörg ‘Inga’ Stefánsdóttir got the gig in 1993, the distance as the crow flies must have been the shortest any Icelander had ever made. She smouldered for her three minutes on stage, giving a real taste of Íslenska. That early draw meant she finished bang in the middle of the leaderboard – 13th – of the biggest contest ever at the time. Left-hand side or right-hand side? That classic optimist/pessimist dilemma. We’d like to think it was left-hand side.

Inga is 52 today.

Til hamingju með afmælið, Inga!
