Winners. We love ’em. Well, mostly. We always get the winner we deserve. But perhaps, just perhaps, there are winners that shouldn’t have been winners. Do you agree?
In 1970, we witnessed a pocket-sized contest in Amsterdam Amsterdam. Dana (née Rosemary Brown, now Scallon) won Europe’s hearts with her innocent little song. She performed last on the night, and the nine points (out of 10) she got from plucky little Belgium practically sealed the deal on Ireland’s first win. Dana, like a number of other artists, has since dabbled in the “wonderful” world of politics, and was quite successful for a time. So we wonder whether her constituents did get all kinds of everything out of her.
Dana is 74 today.
Happy birthday/Lá breithe shona duit, Dana!
