Several countries in our favourite TV show don’t actually lie in Europe proper. That’s the beauty of Eurovision – we have Europeans and Mediterraneans (and some others too) all as one big happy family. And we know how dysfunctional families can be.
Our friends in Israel are not geographically in Europe, but definitely have a European outlook on life. Today’s birthday boy טל סונדק/Tal Sondak represented them in 2001. His country has always been a very enthusiastic participant, and although he only finished 16th, this song could only be an Israeli song. It actually went down very well where juries were involved. He moves around the stage, and has the full complement of dancers to aide and abet him. If you like Israel in Eurovision, this is a prime example.
Tal is 48 today.
