Noa Kirel picks Eurovision song

Noa KirelNoa Kirel will sing a song called ‘Unicorn’ when she represents Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.

The song was created by Noa together with Doron Madali, Yinon Yahel and May Sfadia. We can expect to hear it in March as part of what Kan are calling “a special celebratory broadcast”.

Kirel worked with a number of different songwriting teams to shortlist songs for Eurovision before deciding on ‘Unicorn’. The English-language song is about female empowerment, and includes a few words in Hebrew.

Pressure

Speaking about the process, she said: “Before every song I release there is pressure. But here the pressure is much greater. This is not just any song, it is a song that is going to represent an entire country. I believe everyone will identify with ‘Unicorn’.”

Noa Kirel is an Israeli singer, actress and television host. She won the MTV Europe Music Awards for the best Israeli act between 2017 and 2021. On July 11, 2022, she was chosen by the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (KAN) to represent Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, although the following day, stated that she had not yet decided whether to take the job. On August 10, she confirmed that she would compete at Eurovision.
