Do you remember the 1980s? An interesting decade where we had some innovative sets and some innovative costumes. And we had the finest orchestras TV companies could hire.
Back in 1983, we were in an old Olympic venue. Olympics, Eurovision – Åse Kleveland thought they went hand in hand. Anyway, in front of the world’s biggest electric fire we had today’s birthday boy Riccardo Fogli singing for Italy. Now, as we know, Italy has upped its game since its return, and could possibly win whenever it wants these days. But in the 1980s, it was a different story. A win in 1964, a couple of top three finishes since, and a few no-shows was all Italy had to show for things. Riccardo came eleventh, level with Finland and behind some countries he probably should have beaten. I’ll let you decide which countries they are.
Riccardo is 72 today.
Buon compleanno, Riccardo!
