First rule of home broadcaster: Don’t let your song win. It can be good. But not that good. Second is great. Top 5 will do. Even top 10 has some credit to it.
Today’s birthday boy Peppino di Capri (né Giuseppe Faiella) was a safe pair of hands to sing a home entry. He’d been making music for over 30 years and some wondered (well, me anyway) why he’d not been chosen for his country before. But was it random that this grand man of Italian music got to perform last? Well it was in Italy after all. I think this song is a classic.
Peppino is 80 today.
Buon compleanno, Peppino!
