There’s a small but exclusive club of performers who have done a certain other thing at our favourite contest – become hosts. The first was Corry Brokken in 1976. One more individual will earn their membership this year.
So following Corry, Yardena, Lill, Åse, Gigliola, Dafna and a number of others, today’s birthday girl Edsilia Rombley will be presenting in May. Of course, she’s done her stuff twice as a singer, so it’s only fair we pick her higher-ranked song today. It was in those heady days at the end of the 20th Century, and she finished fourth. She’s also the last person from her country to sing a song in Dutch in the Saturday night final. Is it about time we heard Dutch again? Anyways, Hungary’s jury and Belgium’s televoters had her as their favourite in 1998, and it would be 16 years later before the Netherlands got a better result.
Edsilia is 43 today.
Gefeliciteerd, Edsilia!
