Norway – No Way

Carl Espen

This is wrist slittingly awful.  It’s isn’t the most happy of songs at the best of times and, it has been said, that he should have a t-shirt on it saying “Choose Life” but that’s  a tad harsh.  (but funny)

They have Violinists on steps and a pianist on stage, and that’s  the only bit that works to be honest – Carl is the weak link in this one, there are moments where his voice is strong and I think” yeah, that’s  the one – well done” – and then there are notes where he is straining so much to be all angst ridden his voice cracks and instead of adding to things, it just makes it feel wrong.  Granted, the ending is just a complete stop which , I guess, suits the song but to me there are too many niggly things that are adding up into more issues.

Having said all of that, the jury instructions are being ticked one by one which is going to get this song through comfortably but, and this is the kicker, is it going to have mass appeal on Saturday night.  If he suddenly finds a vein of consistent singing ( as opposed to the veins Europe will be cutting) – he’ll do OK – It really is all down to him.

I think that it was his first rehearsal. Not sure what experience he has of large live events beyond MGP. I suspect he will pull it out of the bag,

MGP was debatable, it’s a fine song. I think he is Malene in disguise.
