Portugal just provided us with one of the great press conferences of all time. For each question the slick backed lead chap provided us with an earnest yet optimistic outpouring of the joy of struggle, while his cohorts sang along quietly in the background, before the end of each answer reached a crescendo of singalong joy. Every single time.
He stayed in character most of the time, but wasn’t afraid to break the conceit and answer a question about who they were in real life – which was pretty refreshing. I liked ’em before, but i love ’em now, and I think they even won a few of the cynics over here too.
The Azeri song, on the other hand, came over like a chap who’s never really thought about girls clumsily throttling a gangster’s moll. Not seeing this, but whoever knows with this bunch.
Oh yes, and a nice old lady from Lithuania was also on stage singing a song as rambling as a tramp in a bus stop trying to cadge chips off you.
