Some songs earn notoriety for a number of different reasons. They could be a winner. They could be – to coin the oft-used but incorrect phrase – the “real winner”. Or they could have been that far wide of the mark that no-one gave them a prayer.
In other news, Romania has recently had an indifferent time at our favourite TV show. There were years they could have won. But not 2023. TVR picked today’s birthday boy Theodor-Octavian Andrei in a national final. As other songs got picked, it became clearer that he might not win in Liverpool. Fast forward to May 2023 and those nay-sayers got one right. On a technicality he didn’t finish last in his semi-final. But had the televoters and jurors known about his repertoire – he could sing a lot of the other songs he was up against – then maybe, just maybe, the votes might have gone his way.
Theodor is 20 today.
