This could be a shame. There used to be a narrative in this staging. Daniel sings, and brings all the little things that he needs to life in a great narrative crescendo of thinginess, and it was a gorgeous little one act play in three minutes.
Now, however, we have a hairy Spanish person singing a very lovely and emotional song surrounded by a bunch of clowns – for virtually the entire three minutes. It makes no sense. Narratively unsatisfying.
And it’s a shame. Because it’s a lovely little song, and Daniel’s a crackerjack of a singer who deserves for this to go right. But it’s just not hanging together, and for my money – sadly – it’s going nowhere.
