Phil: I reckon that Ark have missed lots and lots of things out of their song, mostly a spark of something good. In the Melodifestival, there was no contest, but here, this should be doing big business – but, I cant see it happening somehow. It comes over as lackluster, weak and dismal in so many ways. People won’t get that it’s a pastiche – and yet the bookies have this down as a favourite. After a performance, which I am sure looks good on camera, I seriously doubt it will do much. Swedish media, however, think it’s doing well … They may well be sadly mistaken.
Nick: First reaction: “This sounds like something else”. Well, yes. It’s every glam rock song of the early 70s in three minutes – and I mean, literally. It’s not sparking for me at all – where the KMGs have picked their era and lovingly created a new song in the style, The Ark have produced more of a patchwork quilt of a song. Never mind winning it, they might need Saint Carola to pull them back out of the semis next year. I can’t see who’s going to go for it.
It gained a bit more spark as the rehearsal session progressed. I’m reassessing it slightly, but it’s still not a winner.
