It’s an old adage that anyone can won our favourite TV show. Portugal, Austria and Finland have proven this in the 21st Century. One win, and a scattering of other reasonable results. So there is hope for [insert country here], who’s not done that well of late.
Now there’s a certain confederation of 26 cantons. They’ve won a couple of times, and had a few other podium finishes too. But nothing of note since 1993 for many years. Then they recruited today’s birthday boy Luca Hänni in 2019 and he only went and finished fourth. He didn’t do that well on the 12-point front, but consistency is the name of the game. The televoters loved him, which is always a good thing for those who think beyond a certain Grand Final. And it must have given our Swiss friends hope, looking at the roll they’ve had since.
Luca is 30 today.
