There are countries out there who have experienced greatness in the past. But those days seem to be long gone. A decent result here and there but said country may wonder what it needs to do.
For many years the United Kingdom was a powerhouse. Always there or thereabouts in the final shake up. And then along comes the 21st Century. You can see how they’ve faired since 2000. But the high bar was potentially in 1997, when today’s birthday girl Katrina Leskanich, naturally backed by the Waves, made the short trip over the Irish Sea and scored – at the time – the biggest winning score ever. Looking back, you could see the win coming from a long way out. The UK scored from every country, and the 10 maxima were all very well deserved. They even only dropped two points from four countries that could televote for the UK. So enjoy one of the most well-regarded winners of them all.
Katrina is 65 today.
Happy birthday, Katrina!
