Azerbaijan – pitching och tuning

Samra at a Meet & Greet during the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm.

We’ve had a lunch break: I brought a halloumi and meze wrap with me today. I know how you like to keep up with my dining habits. I also brought an apple from the supermarket for considerably less than the 10 Kr. I forked out yesterday. It was nicer too. The Cypriot press conference happened during the rehearsal lunch break so I popped into see the boys and had a nice bear hug from Francois (woooof!). They’re pestering me for beers now though, they’re insatiable that lot.

Azerbaijan is up now. Samra is tiny. She’s belting this out but there’s a couple of problems with the pitching och tuning. Actually, there’s one big tiny one and that’s Samra herself. Let’s hope this is just a blip vocally as the song is otherwise solid.

You’ll notice here something more Swedish than just the songwriting: the presentation looks like it could have come straight out of Melodifestivalen. Four backers (some with vocals) flank and strut around her in choreography we’ve seen in countless MF entries that usually get to the Andra Chancen or the lower reaches of the final. It’s not bad, and to the more casual viewer will be quite entertaining should Samra sort out the vocal. It’s got enough to qualify, but will be lucky to make the top 10 when it does.

Late slow-falling pyro curtain in the last run. That’s Rosé swung then…
