A semi final overview

My word my head feels good considering it was battered and barraged by all that Georgianess last evening. So full of bonhomie am I that I shall give you a brief rundown of the various semi-finalulators and their chances at the dances.

Winning contenders … I still maintain there’s a busload of songs that could win this thing, but of the yet-to-qualifiers I fancy there are five that stand out.

  • Serbia for its power
  • Switzerland for its slick showbiz and ludicrous singalongability
  • Andorra for their explosion of puppy-dog energy
  • Latvia for its blokes down the pub shout-along charm
  • Belarus for its melt-your-mum bluster

I would be very surprised if that four didn’t make it to the big one (although I can see reasons for all of ’em missing out) But there are a few others who stand to make a stir …

  • Israel, if everyone gets the fun time side of it
  • Georgia, and not just cos they had a fab party
  • Poland, which I haven’t seem, but which by all accounts if pretty decent
  • Austria, which may surprise a few folks, but despite its very ludicrousness it looks pretty special on the screens

Aside from that little bundle, it’s so hard to call. You would expect Macedonia and Croatia to get through, despite heir dreariness, but I don’t think even they are safe. Cyprus make a good fist of it, but I fear may just miss out in 11th or 12th. Denmark is tricky to judge, but the fan vote may just scrape it through, and that little clump of girl-powered likey-likes that includes Malta, Slovenia, Portugal and Norway may all cancel each other out.

I think though we can suspect that we may not be seeing Edsilia in the latter part of the week, and Albania, Estonia, Moldova and Hungary may be joining her in the battle for the lantern rouge.

And as for the others, I really have no clue – anything could happen in the next four days!

Vague enough for you?
