Contests come and go, and sometimes songs that you took an interest in seem to pass out of memory, even though they may have popular at the time.
Back in 1997 – yes, there were contests in the 20th Century, we seemed to spend all our time in Ireland. Switzerland sent today’s birthday girl Barbara Berta. She’s from the Italian part of the Confederation so naturally sang in that language. That may have been her downfall as she was up against another song in the same language. Even with her trumpeter who had jazzed up his instrument by spraying it blue, she only managed five points, from two juries. Luckily for Barbara, her score was overshadowed by how her country did in 1998…
Barbara is 60 today.
Buon compleanno/Frohe Geburtstag/Bonne anniversaire, Barbara!
