Are there any countries in this year’s contest that you are glad to see there? I’m glad that Latvia are there. They seem to be on a roll at the moment and I’d love to go back to Rīga for some good old Latvian beer and food. It’s also good to see four – yes, four – countries returning after breaks. They must be happy to pay Stockholm prices for accommodation for two weeks. Or they might want to have a pop at winning. So it is with Ukraine, with all its current trials and tribulations, that I’m turning to today. Two years ago they came sixth with a nifty little song that singer Марія Яремчук/Mariya Yaremchuk co-wrote with a Swede (yawn). Mariya is 23 today.
