Ten songs have qualified tonight – some predictable, a few surprises – but that’s the joy of Eurovision.
Shortly after the show ten winners of the first Semi-Final spoke to the media at a press conference. Each participant took part in a draw to decide which half of the Grand Final they will perform on Saturday.

I got 8 out of 10.
Missing Belgium and Australia where I thought Finland and Slovenia will get in.
I think Finland is the shocked non qualifier. It’s a shame it didn’t because it’s quite a good song and performance. But that is Eurovision
8 out of 10 – SWE, AUS, BEL, FIN, AZE, POR, MOL, CYP, ARM, SLO would have been my Top 10.
Poland I can sort of understand but no idea where Greece came from I have no idea. Completely devastated for Finland. How did it not qualify?

For the 2nd semi final winners there are left with 7 – 1st half spots and 3- 2nd half spots
Belgium qualifying was a shock for me. I thought her performance was terrible, it was verging on the Jemini for vocal quality. I can only think that the jurors effectively saved this, by having the studio version in their minds when voting.
Conversely, Finland not qualifying was a shock, but actually although I like it now, I do seem to recall when I first heard it that it didn’t do anything for me. Songs which are growers are at a disadvantage.
Otherwise I got 8 right; I only promoted Iceland into the “qualifying” group today based on others’ reactions but I didn’t particularly like it; and I did have Moldova as marginal.
So all the best acts are being consolidated in the first half; second half will be a snooze fest
