The Festival della canzone italiana di Sanremo (in English: Italian song festival of Sanremo) is the most popular Italian song contest and awards, held annually in the city of Sanremo, in Italy, and consisting of a competition amongst previously unreleased songs.
It was the inspiration for the Eurovision Song Contest itself.
The winner is offered first refusal on the Italian place at Eurovision.
Tonight is the final, who’s still in the running?
After a week of shows, we are down to sixteen finalists. Each will perform again tonight.
Voting is split 40% televote, 30% judges and 30% coming from a random sample of Italians who bought at least one album or saw a concert in the last six months.
And yes, in theory there is an overlap there, but why make things easy?
When the points are added up, three songs go through to a ‘super final’. They perform one more time and there will be a further round of voting.
Somewhere late in the evening, a winner gets crowned. Then questions begin to be asked. The main one we care about here at OnEurope being ‘are you going to Kiev with your song, or are you busy washing your hair that night?’
