Well just when I thought Wednesday was going to be a quiet news day – not a bit of it.  YLE Sent through the following press release!

“One Morning Left will not continue in the contest for New Music UMK

The group of contestants in Yle’s Contest for New Music UMK is shrinking by one: the band One Morning Left will no longer continue in the competition. Yle has excluded the band from the competition due to a contract violation. Yle and One Morning Left have discussed the matter and agree on the basis for the decision.

Finland’s largest music show, Contest for New Music UMK, will culminate on February 8 at Nokia Arena in Tampere, where six artists will take the stage this year. According to UMK rules, a new representative does not need to be added to replace the departing competitor.

UMK’s executive producer Anssi Autio comments: “Unfortunately, One Morning Left will not be seen in this year’s UMK, as the band has not fully complied with the competition’s rules. The decision also involved the rules of the Eurovision Song Contest, set by the EBU, which clearly state that such a rule violation is an unequivocal obstacle to Eurovision representation.”

After doing some digging, it seems the band have posted on their insta that, allegedly, Mika Lahti has messaged a “Possibly underage person on the IRC Gallery website between 2007 and 2010” – Lahti denies the allegation but as a result the band have broken up and the company with the bands assets has been dissolved.

According to hs.fi, It seems that the band actually broke rule 3.18 of UMK which states ” “The competition will follow the principles of a safer space. The competition is a discrimination-free area where we respect, value and encourage each other as people and professionals.”  this was not confirmed in the report online but the producer of the show said “ I’m still not commenting on the breach of contract, but that’s what it’s all about”  Tell me you are commenting without commenting there!
