Ah, Ukraine and Eurovision—a match made in musical heaven. For 2025, Vidbir will once again be the country’s trusty national selection process. It’s Ukraine’s go-to for picking the next big Eurovision act, and if you know anything about Ukraine’s Eurovision record (hello, 100% qualification to the final), you know this is serious business.
Interactive
The Ukrainian public broadcaster, Suspilne, has confirmed that Ukraine will compete in Basel, Switzerland, in May 2025. And for Vidbir fans, get ready—this year’s process is about to get interactive. Suspilne will draw up a longlist of up to 20 songs, and after some thorough auditions, they’ll publish their chosen shortlist of 9 tracks for February’s live televised final. But here’s the twist: that all-important 10th finalist will be decided by the Ukrainian public, through an online vote.
Submissions are go
Submissions are open now until November 10, so if you think you’ve got what it takes to represent Ukraine on the world stage, get to it! Last year’s act, alyona alyona & Jerry Heil, crushed it with Teresa & Maria, snagging a 3rd place finish with a whopping 453 points—no pressure!
Eurovision isn’t just a song contest for Ukraine; it’s a platform for cultural diplomacy. As Suspilne chairman Mykola Chernotytskyi put it, it’s vital for keeping Ukraine in the global spotlight.
So, Basel 2025, here we come! With Vidbir back in full swing, expect big things.
