If you are, say, over 30 or don’t go on the twitter machine you’ll probably be as totally unshocked as I was when AVROTROS dropped this little bombshell on a Thursday Evening :
“AVROTROS will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Switzerland. After months of discussions and consultations, the broadcaster has sufficient guarantees from the EBU that structural changes will be made at the music festival. Joost Klein has been given the opportunity to participate again. But in the end, he chose to decline this offer. Registration for new songs for 2025 is now open.”
What this actually means is that, when weighing up the benefits of stamping their tiny feet over Joost’s disqualification from Eurovision 2024 against the cost of participation, the loss of public good will *and* the nine hours of expensive telly they’re going to have to fill their schedules with, they have decided that the high ground may be morally right – but it’s damn expensive.
Joost not participating is the right choice for both him ( because, quite frankly, I don’t think he was ever mentally up for it) and the contest itself (Which can move on now) and there is an argument to be made that he was never going anyway and, like so many other things that have been said, AVROTROS were just blowing smoke… but who am I to say?
If you want to enter a song you can do so until 22nd November.
Can this be over now?
