Last year, Poli Genova gave Bulgaria their best ever result at Eurovision. The pressure was on. This morning, Bulgarian national broadcaster BNT revealed that Kristian Kostov will represent the country in 2017 with Beautiful Mess.
Kristian is the youngest performer in the Eurovision Song Contest this year. The EBU is already spinning his participation as a fine example of their ‘Celebrating Diversity‘ slogan – his father is Bulgarian and his mother is from Kazakhstan.
Like almost everyone this year, he’s appeared on a TV Talent show – The Voice Kids in Russia, where he had the dubious honour of having Dima Bilan as his mentor.
Like almost everyone this year, his song team involves a Swede. It’s written by Bulgarian Borislav Milanov, Austrian Sebastian Armann and Joacim Bo Persson from Sweden. They all had a hand in last year’s entry.
Celebrate diversity indeed.
And despite all of the above, if I were a betting man, I’d have a crafty fiver on this each way.
