“They committed sacrilege” and “some tried to steal my throne” are not lines you’d expect to feature in the lyric of any Eurovision song. You might prefer lyrics like “Let’s get happy and let’s be friends” or “Stop don’t say that it’s impossible, ’cause I know it’s possible”.
Definitely award-winning lines, but maybe not quite as profound.
So when a song dares to mention thrones of sacrilege it definitely catches my interest. As it today with a song by birthday girl and renowned chain-smoker Maria-Ελπίδα ‘Ελίνα’ Κωνσταντοπούλου/Maria-Elpida ‘Elina’ Konstantopoulou.
It’s a masterpiece in the Greek language.
Elina is 46 today.
Χρόνια πολλά, Ελίνα!
