12 October – Sing it out

It’s a tough old game for some countries. Back in time, they ruled the roost, and could have had someone on stage reading the Zaragoza phone book and still finished in the top three. Then as times change the momentum moves elsewhere. I’m not going to name countries that have been through this. And for those countries who can do no wrong right now, things will change and you’ll be left wondering what went wrong.

Anyway, today’s birthday boy Brian Kennedy came along about 10 years too late. He had his chance, and was involved in the Irish interval act in 1995. Him and a cast of thousands. However, In Athens he still managed a 10th place in the Grand Final. What would RTÉ give for a finish like that now?

Brian is 51 today.

Happy birthday/Lá breithe sona, Brian!
