13 December – The German guns, by Pte S Baldrick

You have to admire the breadth of songs that appear at Europe’s favourite TV show. Rap, Schlager, ballad, and, erm, miscellaneous. Today’s song falls into that category. In 1967 when Mary-Pierre ‘Minouche’ Barelli stood on stage in Vienna for the Principality of Monaco, we all knew how cutting-edge her song was. Maybe too cutting edge for the tastes of the people in the Wiener Hofburg. Or perhaps because it was written by Serge Gainsbourg. What a guy. Sadly Minouche died in 2004.

Minouche would have been 69 today.
