2 November – You’ll still be in paradise

Šarski sir. Do you remember when people stopped singing songs about falling in/out of love? It’s a phase we go through every now and then, when songwriters give the muscles of their social conscience a flex and write something about the planet instead. You know the sort of thing. We;re not doing enough to save the sealions, or we’re pumping too much glitter into the atmosphere.

I jest of course, as these can be serious issues. I just wonder whether the frenzied extravaganza of the Eurovision stage is the right place for this. You might disagree (tell me if you do). Back in 1991, we saw a few of these songs crop up, including this one by today’s birthday girl Samantha Zoë Womack née Janus. She managed a 10th place, which her country would kill for these days.

Samantha is 45 today.

Happy birthday, Samantha!
