Party Season is officially open!

Last evening saw the opening of both Euroclub and the 2010 Eurovision party season. This year’s host venue is, how shall we say, considerably cosier than last year’s cavernous venue, and got elbow bumpingly cosy after only a handful of delegations arrived. And you don’t want to be spilling any drinks at Norwegian prices!

Undoubted stars of the night were the Moldovans, who burst in like an explosion of dance energy, got the whole dance-floor jumping, and then colonised the stage to do a set of their best tunes – and to our surprise they actually had some. They’re confident and cocky for sure, but in a way that pleasingly doesn’t grate – yet.

Also worth mentioning in dispatches are the the Poles. They turned up only two hours after their flight rolled in and were straight on the dance floor. Not bad considering that they had to be at the well-out-of-town arena at 7.30 this morning! Will they continue that punishing pace, we wonder? Marcin seems like a smashing bloke, too. Really excited to be there, and happy ton chat to everyone. I suspect we’re going to like him.

The Macedonians were the first stars to arrive, and were happy to chat, but kept themselves to themselves, while we’re not sure if the Estonians were aloof or completely bewildered by the whole thing. They looked like they had some fun in them, so only time will tell.

The Slovaks also dipped their toes into the party water, but that was about the size of it for the party goers. Still, there’s plenty who haven’t arrived yet, so I’m sure we’ve got plenty of get down thrills to be had as the fortnight progresses. I’m a bit concerned just where they’re going to squeeze them all in, mind…
