Opening a contest is always daunting. Closing it is probably worse, because being on first means to can take advantage of the free bar in the Green Room for longer.
Back in 2003 we were in sunny Rīga, which was a contest with some controversy. Russia sent two teenage girls, the UK of stuff sent an interesting act, and there were alleged financial issues. Today’s birthday girl Birgitta Haukdal Brynjarsdóttir opened the show for Iceland. With drinks prices in Reykjavík being a little higher than in Rīga, she must have loved the parties, even when the bars weren’t free. And that happiness was evident in her eighth place finish in what was the biggest contest at the time. She also had a marvellous pair of trousers.
Birgitta is 40 today.
Til hamingju með afmælið, Birgitta!
