You have to feel for Ireland. Remember those heady days of the 1990s when RTÉ were being slowly and painfully bankrupted. Irish singers could do no wrong and it was a good time.
Fast forward to the 2010s and it’s all changed. Ireland do make it from the semi-finals, but it’s a struggle. Today’s birthday girl Sarah McTernan had that trouble in Tel Aviv. She did her best, and wowed us all with her stage show and nice frothy drinks. It was all to no avail. Sarah did do better out of the juries, but only one country gave her televotes. What were the others thinking? On the plus side, Sarah got to watch everyone on the Grand Final make fools of themselves. And RTÉ are probably thinking that a very successful country in the 2010s will probably have the most torrid of times in the 2030s.
Sarah is 27 today.
Happy birthday, Sarah!
