What’s your favourite type of song? Those about falling in love? Those about falling out of love? Or something else?
Today’s song is in the ‘something else’ category, even though it’s a bit of falling in love. It’s more about nostalgia, and comes from today’s birthday boy Paul Harrington. He was half of an act that did something unprecedented, and gave a country three wins in a row. I don’t need to say which country that was, but it’s a record that might not get beaten, at least not until 2022 at the very earliest. You’ll also know that 1994 was a very different contest, and started to signal the way the contest we see now. Indeed, Paul’s win, with his pal Charlie, meant that at the time Ireland was the only country that had beaten every other country. That’s a record few can dispute.
Paul is 31 today.
Lá breithe shona duit/Happy birthday, Paul!
