Some countries have their stars. Those names that will attract a crowd whether it’s singing on stage, or at the local supermarket buying their favourite satay sauce. So many other aspire to be like that, but don’t quite make it. They might even achieve notoriety for other reasons.
Our friends in Israel are due to win again in 2039 or thereabouts. In the meantime, they dutifully send other performers to try and buck this prophecy. In 2022 they sent today’s birthday boy מיכאל בן דוד/Michael Ben David. he sashayed onto stage with a song all about himself. He’d been pit through the mill to get there so maybe we could cut him some slack. Anyway, once in Torino/Turin he scored somewhat consistently more from the juries than the televoters. And, of course, Michael made an impression in the Green Room too.
Michael is 27 today.
