Did you remember the contest in Portugal in 2018? Do you still dream of the sun, the sea, the pasteis de nada? Do you think that we should have already been there?
I can think of several examples of when Portugal should have done better than they did. One of these was in the scientifically-proven best contest of all time. Our friends in Portugal finished 18th of 19, and today’s birthday girl Adelaide (née Maria Adelaide Mengas Matafome Ferreira) performed her magnificent song. It had everything, except a following amongst the juries of Europe. Turkey and Greece liked her song, but that’s as far as it went. The rest of Europe were just plain heathens.
Adelaide is 62 today.
