14 September – Where are you? Where are you? Where are you? Where are you?

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

There’s that twilight zone of Eurovision songs. We have the Grand Finalists basking in the sunshine of a Saturday night. Then we have the semi-finalists who know their place, and get many of the trappings of the host city. Then there are 11 twilit songs, which are proper Eurovision songs but rarely get the credit they deserve.

Today’s birthday girl Didina Alexandra ‘Dida’ Drăgan falls in that awkward twilight zone. She toddled off to Ljubljana to compete for a place in the 1993 circus, and was ignored in favour of three songs of an ex-Yugoslav nature. She even had a cohort of ex-Yugos backing her. And she did get a maximum from Croatia. It’s an intense performance and definitely one to watch for the entire song. Go Dida! It’s time to come out of the twilight.

Dida is 78 today.

La multi ani, Dida!!
