In a change to our performers’ birthday, it’s worth remembering that for 43 contests, an important part of Eurovision was the orchestra. do we miss them?
Some conductors only did their job once or twice. Others were more notorious. And that’s the way with today’s birthday boy Anders Berglund. Over 12 contests between 1977 and 1998, he conducted for Sweden. He also has the distinction to be the last ever conductor of a Yugoslav entry. Naturally, he also got the gig with the baton for Melodifestivalen too, but it was for the Eurovisions themselves that most remember him for. However, he did more than just conduct, as you’ll see from today’s rather special video. He doesn’t appear till 1.20 in, but you’ll probably recognise the melodi even if you can’t understand Svenska.
Anders is 71 today.
Grattis på födelsedagen, Anders!
