Well Melanie comes on stage in one dress, then uses the back of her dress as a batfink style cape… her wings are, quite literally, a shield of steel – There is also lots of wind in this and lots of drum slapping from the backing singers…You have so much going on stage you almost forget about Melanie and she is a good performer, but everything else around her is so distracting you miss the point….. It’s a song contest. The song that Melanie is singing is average at best and whilst I like it personally, I feel that for qualification purposes it seems to be missing that little spark that makes a semi decent song great.
It took me three attempts to notice she was singing on a perspex box for instance and there are too many long shots and then fast cuts to the backing singers in no particular order to make the staging of the song on the TV coherent. It’s messy and not qualifying.
