Switzerland is kind of neutralised

I’m now wishing I’d been a fly on the wall in the presentation at the Heads of Delegation meeting back in March. I guess it went something like this:“So, as you see, we have a very versatile stage this year. We can give you red or gold or blue or green, we can give you forest or fireworks, we can give you abstract swirls or the whole world spinning in space. Our only limit is your own imaginations!”

At which point they put the request form out and half of them said “Forest, please. In blue”. It’s a good thing nobody in the press centre drinks, or we’d have a decent drinking game going on here.

Anyway, Switzerland’s Melanie Rene is performing Time To Shine in the middle of a forest. It’s blue. She is flanked by drummers, she’s strikingly attractive, she performs well, but it just ends up being The Eurovision equivalent of The Song That Goes Like This. It’s absolutely fine, there are just too many people doing similar things this year equally absolutely finely.
