First look at La France. Surprisingly, Amir is alone on stage. I thought they might throw something superfluous at it, but they’ve been restrained. The backdrop is planetary and stellar, and a moon zooms in under Amir’s feet at one point (Le Petit Prince?). He’s in a suit, trainers, and fine voice.
I had feared they’d bugger this up but they have kept it simple. Ironically, maybe a little too simple. I don’t know if this has quite the momentum it needs after seeing this. It’s a good performance of a great song without any sideshow, which might stand out against the spectacle around it, but it’s far from clear that it will do at the moment.
