Tonight saw the first Semi Final heat of Benidorm Fest – Spain’s fresh and not so new and etcetera selection show for Eurovision 2023.
Like last year, they have bussed a number of acts (18) out to Britain in the Sun out of season, so they can shake their booties without fear of a fat old Englishman leering at them or, indeed, a booze filled heckle in the hall itself.
Tonight’s first semi final, broadcast live on TVE, saw Agoney, Alice Wonder, Fusa Nocta, and Megara fight their way to the death to get to Saturday night’s final. The results were made up of an “expert” jury, a demoscopic jury (in a nod to Sanremo), and a televote, which were combined to give us the qualifiers.
That “professional” jury has such luminaries as Christer Bjorkman, Katrina, and Wiwi himself <insert your own quote here>.
