AVROTROS today named the Dutch Eurovision 2019 hopeful. 24-year-old singer-songwriter Duncan Laurence has landed the job. Details of his song will follow in early March.
Speaking about his selection, Laurence said: “In the past few years many well known artists represented The Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest. I’m not well-known, but that’s also a good thing; The Netherlands has a lot of young and talented musicians. My participation proves that nothing is impossible. You can suddenly get the opportunity to represent your country on an international stage. I’m very proud to represent my country… I will give it my all!”.
Earlier rumours suggested the Dutch might break away from largely folk/country style pop songs, but Laurence appears likely to fit with recent entrants. He made the finals of ‘The Voice of Holland’ and was coached by former Eurovision runner-up Ilse de Lange.
