Ester Peony has won the Selecția Națională, and with that the job of singing for Romania at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest. She won (appropriately) this evening with a song called ‘On a Sunday’. Runner-up Laura Bretan was popular with viewers but failed to impress the jury members.
Ester ended eighth in the popular vote but impressed the panel. It’s worth noting that voting numbers have always been historically low for Romanian TV shows, which may be why the majority of ‘power’ went to ‘experts’. Early reports indicate around 10,000 votes were cast across the twelve songs.
The evening featured a guest performance by 2013 winner Emmelie ‘Only Teardrops’ de Forest.
