Another Eurovision Saturday evening ended with Portugal picking seven songs from a starting field of ten to advance to the Festival da Canção 2023.
The plan had been that the first five qualifiers would be decided by a 50/50 split between votes from an RTP jury and public televoting; where both streams of voting assigned points from 1–8, 10 and 12 based on ranking. The sixth qualifier (and therefore the runt of the litter) was to be determined by a second round of public televoting from the remaining entries.
A ‘technical issue’ with one of the televoting numbers saw RTP decide to send through six rather than five and give a ‘thanks for coming’ place to Neon Soho.
