S10 – De Diepte
Well its certainly lovely to have a song in a native language in this contest – sadly though that happens to be Dutch.
My first impressions of this song is: “Oh my God, can’t people just write about happy things rather than being depressed all the time – in Dutch as well?” Then I look at the lyric translation and, yup, it’s definitely Diet Adele stuff. “I’m hiding under the table and I’m hoping you will find me.” No, S10, I’m really hoping they don’t.
She also commits the cardinal Sin of Eurovision by not writing enough words and deciding that a la-la-la break is going to help the listener get into the song. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t. The song seems to wander aimlessly towards the end, and it is almost a blessed relief when it stops!
Maybe I am a bit tired and jaded at hearing all these lovely girls tell me how depressed they are for me to actually give a shit, but when the Contest comes round, that is what the European public is, essentially, going to be asked. Does it have any redeeming features worth talking about? Well no. It just melts into my mind like all the other depression pop girls this year. Same old Same old.

Well if I did that Calvin you’d have nowhere to complain and we couldn’t have that could we?
Although that whippersnapper Billie Eilish has got a lot to answer for, I really like this song and welcome a song sung in Dutch. The la la la bit is necessary so that the good people of elsewhere can sing along and be in touch with their teenage angst.
Ok Karen.
I totally disagree with Phil, in my final top 5. But hey, everybody their own opinion! I don’t like the Italian song… But who am I?
Indeed. Everyone is entitled to agree or disagree but some of the Twitter stuff has been beyond the pail
