Sometimes it works. Sometimes it’s a bunch of earnest noise and nonsense that’s so far up its own arse that it becomes that part of the evening where you glance at the clock and ask how long until the voting starts.

It’s easy to see how this hoovered up points at the Festival da Canção 2024, “Grito” is a poetic take on universal themes of overcoming adversity, showcasing iolanda’s talent both as a vocalist and a storyteller.
The song’s ability to connect with listeners on an emotional level could make it a memorable and impactful piece in the competition. For me, not so much.
