TVP announced on 2 January it will resurrect an old format to select its entrant for Eurovision 2020.
The show in question – entitled Szansa na sukces – originally ran from 1993-2002, producing Justyna (1995) and Magaret (2017 NF) as their Eurovision alum.
The original idea of the show’s return was to produce a song for the 2018 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, which it did, and they won it. The logic seems to be … if it worked for the kids then the adults can have a go too.
The format will be a good old three hears and a final, kicking off on Sunday 2 February. The first three weeks feature either 6 or 7 performances, with one making the final. At this stage the Eurovision songs will be nowhere in sight. It’s just the singers that qualify. They will be singing cover versions of that current week’s guest artiste.
The three winners, plus a fourth so-called ‘golden ticket wildcard singer’ compete on 23 February, where they sing their potential Eurovision song plus a cover version. No jury in this final, just pure unadulterated televoting.
It’s brutal is that, but that’s Eurovision!
