Non-binary singer Luna Ki has withdrawn from Benidorm Fest after finding out Eurovision rules wouldn’t allow extensive use of autotune.
Hyperpop song “Voy a Morir” couldn’t comply with the EBU rules that would require the lead vocals to be performed live in Turin, something it appears Luna Ki is either unwilling or unable to do. Luna Ki stated their song was composed using the tool and it is an essential part of the performance.
It does beg the question how the song ended up in the final 14, given the selection panel should have been aware of the rules. Expect answers (or excuses) at a press conference tomorrow afternoon.
Benidorm Fest takes place on January 26,27 and 29. The shows start at 22:40 CET on Wednesday and Thursday and at 22:05 CET on Saturday night.
